Friday, September 19, 2008  6 pm  Potluck Dinner


At the home of Deb and Tim Jenks.  Bring a friend, bring some food, and enjoy a relaxed evening.  New members especially welcome.  Deb emphasizes that this is casual.  Bring a bathing suit if you want to take a dip in the pool.

Food assignments and directions to the house will be included in the September Suffolk Soundings newsletter.



 



Sunday, October 19, 2008  7:30 pm  Organ Spectacular -- world's largest organ recital

A celebration of the International Year of the Organ.  Organ Spectacular will include more than 200 concerts involving more than 2000 performers in the United States, Canada, and abroad on this day.  The Suffolk Chapter is participating in the event with its own members' recital.   "Ornament of Grace" by Bernard Sanders, the prize-winning piece for organ and solo instrument composed for this event, will be performed by Dr. Carol Weitner, organist, and Dr. Terry Keevil, oboist.  David Bouchier, radio host of WSHU-FM will provide entertaining commentary on the program.  St. James RC Church, 429 Route 25A, Setauket.

Diane Bish in Recital.  

The Suffolk Chapter continues its celebration of the International Year of the Organ as it joins the Nassau and Queens chapters, together with St. Agnes Cathedral in Rockville Centre, in presenting the international star of the popular television series, Joy of Music, Diane Bish.   At St. Agnes Cathedral, 29 Quealy Place, Rockville Centre. 

Tickets:  $20 Adults; $15 Students, Seniors, and members of sponsoring AGO chapters with valid membership card.  Tickets may be purchased in advance by sending a check payable to St. Agnes Music Ministry, to Michael L. Bower, St. Agnes Cathedral, 29 Quealy Place, Rockville Centre, NY  11570.  Tickets will be mailed out two weeks prior to the performance.

3rd Annual Mini-Convention

Co-sponsored by local chapters.  All-day series of workshops, masterclasses and lectures, TBA.  Community Church of Douglaston, 39-50 Douglaston Parkway, Douglaston, NY   $10 for members.  






 

Friday-Saturday, February 6-7, 2009  Children's Choir Directors' Workshop and Children's Choir Festival.  

With Guest Conductor, Michael Bedford.  Open to all children's choirs and directors--members and non-members.    Workshop on Friday evening and festival on Saturday, culminating in a performance open to the public at 3 pm.  At St. Luke Lutheran Church, 20 Candlewood Path, Dix Hills.  A free-will offering will be received.    





  


Sunday, March 8, 2009  3 pm  Annual Organ Expo:  Pedals, Pipes, and Pizza  


Adults and children of all ages are welcome to learn about the King of Instruments, hear demonstrations, tour the pipe chambers, and sit at the console for a hands-on exploration.  Pizza following the program.  Co-sponsored with the Rockville Centre Chapter of NPM (National Association of Pastoral Musicians).   Open to the public.  At Commack United Methodist Church, 486 Town Line Road, Commack.









Sunday, May 3, 2009  5 pm  Hymn Festival with Gerre Hancock 

Co-sponsored with the Nassau and Queens chapters and St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Bay Shore.   Choirs and directors are invited to join in a lively singing session of old and new hymns and settings.

Sunday, June 14, 2009  4 pm  Annual Scholarship Awards Recital featuring Nigel Potts.

Suffolk AGO scholarship winners will receive their awards at this recital.  Members' Dinner to follow.  Seminary of the Immaculate Conception, 440 West Neck Road, Huntington, NY.   Details TBA.
